News Radar Privacy Policy
News Radar has no central account system, advertising, analytics, or profiling service. Data stays in the current Chrome profile by default. Necessary data is sent to a user-selected website, Feishu webhook, or self-hosted WeRSS service only when the user deliberately enables the relevant feature.
11. Chrome

1. Scope and Single Purpose
This Policy applies to the News Radar Chrome extension. News Radar has one purpose: to monitor webpages and public feeds that a user deliberately adds, detect newly published items, and perform user-configured deduplication, organization, on-device translation, and notifications.
The Chrome Web Store edition contains no preset websites, keywords, topics, history, or external-service configuration. The extension begins processing data for a source only after the user adds or enables that source.
2. Data Processed and How It Is Used
To provide the features above, the extension processes URLs added by the user and content metadata from the corresponding pages or feeds, such as headlines, original links, source names, authors, and original publication times. It also stores user-defined extraction rules, check intervals, keywords, topics, alert levels, read status, deduplication fingerprints, and runtime health information. This data is used only to establish monitoring baselines, detect new items, deduplicate, translate, aggregate, diagnose failures, and deliver alerts.
3. Local Storage
Monitoring settings, content metadata, history, and alert preferences are stored by default in the current Chrome profile through chrome.storage.local. They are not stored in Chrome Sync and are not automatically uploaded or returned to the News Radar publisher. The publisher does not operate a central server that collects this extension data.
4. Permissions
- activeTab and scripting: identify monitorable content on the current page when the user takes an action.
- alarms: trigger background checks at the interval selected by the user.
- notifications: display system notifications for newly detected items.
- offscreen: perform required local processing without opening a visible page, including supported on-device translation workflows.
- storage: keep monitoring settings, processing state, and history locally.
- optional site access: the Web Store edition has no pre-authorized websites. Chrome requests optional access for a specific website only when the user adds or enables it.
5. Website Content and Signed-in State
The extension reads only the page content needed for monitoring selected by the user. For signed-in or dynamically loaded pages, it may use the ordinary signed-in state already present in the current Chrome tab to read content deliberately selected by the user. It does not request, copy, export, or sell passwords, cookies, session files, authentication data, or payment information, and it does not bypass sign-in requirements, subscriptions, paywalls, CAPTCHAs, or other technical protections.
6. Translation
English headlines are translated using Chrome's on-device translation capability when available. Chrome may download language components when the feature is first used. News Radar does not send headlines to the publisher's server or a third-party online translation API for translation. If on-device translation is unavailable, the extension keeps the original text instead of silently switching to an external service.
7. External Transfers Chosen by the User
- Target websites or feeds: when checking for updates, Chrome makes ordinary network requests to URLs specified by the user. The operator of the target service may receive standard request information, such as the IP address and browser request information, under its own policies.
- Feishu: only after the user enters and enables a Feishu custom bot will selected alert data—such as the headline, original English title, source, author, original publication time, alert level, and original link—be sent over HTTPS to the Feishu webhook specified by the user. Webhook and signing-key settings remain local.
- WeRSS: the WeChat Official Account feature connects only to a WeRSS service deployed and configured by the user. WeRSS is an independent third-party project with its own data, authorization, and security boundaries. The extension does not include WeChat login credentials, QR-code sessions, or an Official Account subscription database.
8. Sharing, Sale, and Human Access
The publisher does not sell user data or use it for personalized advertising, retargeting, credit assessment, user profiling, or market research unrelated to the extension's single purpose. The publisher and its personnel cannot read monitoring content stored locally by users. Except for services deliberately configured by the user, compliance with applicable law, or actions necessary to address a security incident, the extension does not transfer this data to other third parties.
9. Retention, Access, and Deletion
Local data is retained until the user deletes the relevant monitor in the extension, clears extension data, or uninstalls the extension. Users can view, change, or delete monitoring settings from the extension's management page. Uninstalling the extension normally removes its local Chrome data. Messages already delivered to Feishu, data stored by WeRSS, and data held by target websites must be managed and deleted separately in those services.
10. Security
The extension follows data-minimization principles and transfers data externally only when the user chooses the relevant feature. Feishu transfers use HTTPS. Users are responsible for the deployment, access control, and transport security of their self-hosted WeRSS service. Do not enter passwords in custom-page fields, keyword fields, or other ordinary configuration fields, and protect webhook URLs, signing secrets, and access keys.
11. Chrome Web Store Limited Use Disclosure
News Radar's use of information received from Chrome will comply with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Such data is used only to provide and improve the user-selected monitoring, deduplication, translation, aggregation, failure diagnosis, and notification features. It is not used for personalized advertising, and human access is not permitted except for policy-allowed cases such as user-consented support, legal obligations, or security response.
12. Contact
